- Emergency Recovery Utility
-
-
- GENERAL
- =======
- The Microsoft Windows 95 Emergency Recovery Utility is designed to
- provide a backup of your system configuration in case a problem
- should occur.
-
- Microsoft recommends that you use the utility to create a backup
- each time you make any significant system changes, such as adding
- new hardware or software.
-
- BACKING UP YOUR CONFIGURATION
- =============================
- To create a backup of all or some of your system configuration files,
- simply run the file ERU.EXE (you can create an shortcut to this file
- if you like) and follow the directions.
-
- You will need to choose a location to store your backup information.
- The recommended location is a bootable floppy in drive A, but you
- can specify any location (including network drives).
-
- CUSTOM BACKUPS
- ==============
- If you wish to maintain backups of only certain files, just click
- the Custom button at the file list screen. You can then uncheck
- any files you do not wish to back up.
-
- RESTORING YOUR CONFIGURATION
- ============================
- You will need to boot your machine to the command-prompt (real mode)
- in order to execute the restoration utility (ERD.EXE). If you do
- not wish to restore all of the files listed, simply use the space
- bar to untoggle them, then begin the restoration process.
-
- To boot your machine to the command prompt, reboot it and hit the F8
- key when you see the "Starting Windows 95" message on the screen.
- Then choose the "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only" option. You can then
- change to your backup directory and run the ERD.EXE utility.
